Nova Scotia Summer

Well, we are back in the USA, leaving Nova Scotia on September 8.  The evenings were starting to get chilly, in the 50’s (teens celsius) and we have had to put the heater on occasionally first thing in the morning.  Also Hurricane Lee was threatening and it seemed prudent to get the hell out of Dodge.  We have had a fun and adventurous time up here.  I know that it’s been a while since our last post, so we will be posting a few new ones in the coming days, breaking up our trip into smaller pieces.

After the beautiful Port Mouton, we headed a short distance up the coast to the little village of La Have.  They have a famous bakery and market there and also have moorings for rent. It’s a little way up the La Have river. We got there just after they closed (4pm) and when we went ashore, they were still closing up the bakery and didn’t have any way for us to pay for the mooring, but instead gave us some free bread and scones.  Nova Scotians are nice!

Lahave Bakery, welcoming us from the water

The next morning we went to the bakery and actually bought some things, then went for a walk around town. Interestingly enough, La Have was at one brief time the capital of New France, in the late 1600’s.  It’s now an artist colony with multiple galleries and working artists.

First Capitol of New France!

We spent a nice 2 nights there and headed to Lunenburg, which will be the next post.

  1. Doh! I just realized that I could have been getting notified every time you put up a new post! Instead I got to catch up on many weeks of adventures all at once… What an amazing trip! Glad to hear that you were able to evade any big weather, and that you found time to slow down and enjoy the very cool places you’ve been visiting! Can’t wait to read the next installment (the day it comes out!).
