{"id":233,"date":"2023-07-21T10:15:16","date_gmt":"2023-07-21T09:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wildhorse.fun\/?p=233"},"modified":"2024-06-10T14:35:32","modified_gmt":"2024-06-10T13:35:32","slug":"july-new-england","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wildhorse.fun\/?p=233","title":{"rendered":"July, New England"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s been a while since my last post, so I thought that it was about time to catch up and let you know where Lucie and I have been and what we are up to.<\/p>\n<p>After our time in Narragansett Bay, we headed across to Cuttyhunk Island. \u00a0It is a really quiet island out in the Elizabeth Island chain, which separates Vinyard Sound from Buzzard\u2019s Bay in Massachusetts. \u00a0It was quiet and scenic and we really liked it there. \u00a0Lucie said that it was the closest to a Carribbean island that you could get up here in the north. \u00a0We anchored there for 4 nights and had a relaxing, fun time. \u00a0The water was warm enough and clean, so we swam every day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_0438.png\" src=\"https:\/\/wildhorse.fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_0438.png\" alt=\"IMG 0438\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Cuttyhunk Harbor<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_0440.png\" src=\"https:\/\/wildhorse.fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_0440.png\" alt=\"IMG 0440\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" border=\"0\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>WildHorse at anchor<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_0452.png\" src=\"https:\/\/wildhorse.fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_0452.png\" alt=\"IMG 0452\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" border=\"0\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Getting our folding bikes ashore at Cuttyhunk<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After Cuttyhunk, we headed to Martha\u2019s Vinyard. First night we spent anchored in the outer harbor of Vineyard Haven. \u00a0It was really rough and rolly there, almost like being underway so after exploring the town a little bit, we left there and went to Edgartown and took a mooring in the inner harbor. \u00a0What a difference! \u00a0Calm and comfortable there. \u00a0We toured Martha\u2019s Vinyard on our bikes, went to the beach, and generally had a good time there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After that, it was time to go back to a real town to do laundry, refill water, and other more mundane things. \u00a0We sailed across back to the mainland to New Bedford, MA. \u00a0It is a real working harbor and supposedly has the biggest fishing fleet in the US, even counting Alaska. \u00a0It is also a very interesting historical town and as friendly as you can imagine. It also used to be the biggest whaling center in the US and is where Melville lived when he wrote Moby Dick and where Joshua Slocum rebuilt <em>Spray<\/em> and left for his first-ever solo circumnavigation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_0482.png\" src=\"https:\/\/wildhorse.fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_0482.png\" alt=\"IMG 0482\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>New Bedford harbor<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_0484.png\" src=\"https:\/\/wildhorse.fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_0484-1.png\" alt=\"IMG 0484\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" border=\"0\" \/> <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Historic New Bedford.
