Block Island Tomorrow – Thread the Needle

Well, we have moved aboard and we are ready for our first foray out of the river and the boatyard. We have been very busy getting WildHorse ready and were feeling cooped up here. Time to get out on the water!

We are planning to head to Block Island tomorrow. The river is almost blocked by a shifting sand island this year, and we will have to time our departure for high tide, so we will be leaving at about 1pm. Frank Hall Boatyard here is amazing. They took us out on one of their runabouts today to go look at the pass and we found what we hope is the deepest water. It’s just over 6 feet deep, and our keel is 6 feet… The channel has moved considerably so it was extremely helpful for them to do that for us.

Here are Lucie and Tom getting ready to head out. Tom works here and is also on the Watch Hill Fire Department Marine Rescue squad so has great local knowledge

Heading down the river

Here’s our track trying to find deep water. It is very narrow, and you can almost touch the island. Wish us luck, hopefully next post will be from Block Island!
